Week 8: Tour (Thursday)
Students in both Studio D and C learned more about “making art from feeling” while venturing through the current Chris Martin exhibit spaces in the gallery. Participating in group activities and discussions, campers manipulated paper swatches and found-objects to help interpret and relay their own emotional responses to their favorite pieces. Intertwined within the paintings are feelings tied to memories of people, places and lived experiences that all student campers could appreciate and relate to during the tour.

Week 8: Printmaking (Wednesday)
Campers take relief printmaking to a new level by learning the tools and methods of stamp making. Using linoleum cutters, original sketches, and paint, each student was then able to create numerous stamps ranging from small designs to large portraits, landscapes and other abstract works.

Week 8: Collage Creations (Tuesday)
Afternoon campers progressed to the final stages of their first projects by gluing and affixing their collage media to their atmospheric paper canvases before moving onto cardboard works. Here, the students were asked to create, design, and cut out a personal symbol that would represent something of significance to them. They will adorn the cardboard symbols with metaphoric assemblages that either oppose or promote the symbolic representation.

Week 8: Printmaking (Tuesday)
Today campers explored the use of color, texture, and shapes in order to create collage-like prints portraying two-dimensional images of objects and figures. Materials spanning from vinyl shapes, Bristol and cardboard cut outs to manipulated postcards served as secondary and tertiary field layers while numerous background and foreground colors helped add a new element to the print. In the last minutes of class, however, the campers were shown a new technique using glue which they will incorporate into their work tomorrow. The work continues!

Week 8: Collage Creations (Monday)
Afternoon campers began the week with an exercise in creative perspective by providing the answers to the questions: Who, What, When, Why, and Where? Using their answers as motivation, today’s task was to create an atmosphere in which each added medium would relay, as a tool of interpretation, the story to the viewer. Use of liquid watercolor and oil pastels on paper gave way to many unique and colorful collage creations.

Week 8: Printmaking (Monday)
Studio C campers were shown various techniques in relief printmaking this morning, and with paints, brushes, paper and brayers there is little room for disinterest and much room for messy fun in the Studio 1 classroom. The large space compounded by an avid interest in the medium resulted in a large amount of work being produced within the first few hours of class. While others are expanding creatively on previous printmaking classes, some students are quickly adjusting to the new methods and already pushing their level of creativity onward.
